Physics 109/110: How Things Work

Course Information: Spring, 2007.

In 2007 We will use the third edition of Bloomfield's text. Please be sure to obtain that text. Alternatively, you will be able to purchase a web-based-only text for about half price (about $30 vs about $65). In both cases, you will receive from Wiley (the publishers) registration for "Wiley Plus" which will be the mechanism by which we do homework this time. Be sure, if you buy a book, to get ISBN 0471946648 which is the third edition with "Wiley Plus". If you purchase a used text, you will need to purchase access to "Wiley Plus" as well to complete your homework assignments. A paperback supplemental text, "Voodoo Science" by Robert Park, will also be used this year. That book describes several of the attacks on science that have arisen in recent years. Many of the topics are controversial and intended to elicit your comments and reactions. IN ADDITION, we will use "RF" clickers that look like a TV remote and allow each student to register response to questions and quizzes in class. You will be expected to carry your clicker to each class. Used "RF" clickers will work. So-called "IR" (infra-red) clickers will not work, however.
