Postdoctoral Position in Nuclear and Particle Theory

Pion scattering length (I=2 channel)
The Jlab Lattice QCD cluster
Supercomputers are now powerful enough to allow us to precisely compute the properties of the theory of strong interactions, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The graph is a recent calculation of the two pion scattering length as a function of the pion mass. Bellow, one of the supercomputers used to perform this calculation (located at JLAB).

The Nuclear and Particle Theory group in the Department of Physics at the College of WIlliam and Mary invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the group beginning in September 2011, pending availability of funding. Candidates should have a Ph.D. by the starting date and have expertise in an area relevant to the group's research program. Topics of interest include: lattice QCD, effective field theories, heavy quark physics, and lattice field theory. The group consists of three faculty (Carlson, Detmold and Orginos) and currently has two postdoctoral research associates and four graduate students. In addition, has strong ties with the Theory Center at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Applications should include a CV (with a list of publications) and a brief statement of research interests and should be sent (preferably via email) to either of:

Prof. Kostas Orginos

Prof. William Detmold

Applicants should also request that three letters of recommendation be sent (preferably via email) to the above address.

Applications must be received by December 15th, 2010 to receive full consideration. The College of William and Mary is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
