Spring 1997

Due Friday 21 February 1997

1. Problem 4-5 in Marion.

2. Problem 4-17 in Marion.

3. Plot the dimensionless period (the period divided by the small-amplitude period) of a rigid pendulum as a function of the maximum angle (theta naught) up to 180 degrees. You may (should?) use EllipticK in Maple. Also use Eq. (4.29) to plot the same quantity. Over what range of angles is Eq. 4.29 accurate to 1%? 10%?
