From lcarlson at jlab.org Wed Feb 8 11:16:49 2012 From: lcarlson at jlab.org (Lorelei Carlson) Date: Wed, 08 Feb 2012 11:16:49 -0500 Subject: [Jobs] Two positions open at the University of Milano-Bicocca- A message from Marco Paganoni Message-ID: <4F329FF1.8030909@jlab.org> Dear Colleagues, I have two positions open at the University of Milano-Bicocca in the frame of the PICOSEC MC-NET project (Pico-second Siliconphotomultiplier- Electronics-Crystal research-Marie- Curie-Network) http://picosec.web.cern.ch/picosec/home.html The duration of the grant is 36 months. The description of both positions is available at http://picosec.web.cern.ch/picosec/vacancies.html , where also positions offered by the other partners of the network are visible. The activity is related to crystal based PET detectors with very high time resolution. One of the position is focused on crystal characterization, the other on readout photodetectors. Candidates of any nationality are eligible if: - they do not have PhD at the enrollment time (though they can get it during the contract), - have got their degrees less than 4 years ago - have spent less than 12 months in Italy during the past 3 years. I do not require particular experience in the field, only a genuine interest for detector applications to medical imaging. The students have an interesting training program and are well paid, compared with people enrolled in normal national PhD programs. I am in favor of encouraging student mobility, especially with CERN, which is the partner of the network with whom we collaborate most. Although the deadline is presently set January 31st, it will be postponed to middle February. The research of our group involves the study of nuclei and nucleons with electromagnetic probes. Among other efforts, we are leading programs in the study of the structure and interaction of baryons and the study of in-medium modifications of hadrons at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics. Experience with JLab data analysis and detector hardware is a plus. The successful candidate will strengthen our current research efforts at JLab, as well as possible new projects at J-PARC and PSI. Applicants should submit a resume and publication list, and arrange to have letters from three references sent electronically to Prof. Steffen Strauch (e-mail:strauch at sc.edu). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The University of South Carolina is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Qualified women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply. _______________________________________________ Cugapost mailing list Cugapost at jlab.org https://mailman.jlab.org/mailman/listinfo/cugapost From lcarlson at jlab.org Tue Feb 21 12:07:25 2012 From: lcarlson at jlab.org (Lorelei Carlson) Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2012 12:07:25 -0500 Subject: [Jobs] Experimental Postdoc Position at MIT- A message from Aron Bernstein Message-ID: <4F43CF4D.2020101@jlab.org> Experimental Postdoc Position at MIT The Hadronic Physics Group at MIT is interested in applications for a postdoctoral position to work on experiments in electro- and photo- pion production and Compton scattering with real and virtual photons. The experiments are at Mainz and JLab. The work could include data analysis and interpretation, planning of, and participation in new experiments, and hardware development. The applicant should have a Ph. D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics, and knowledge of data analysis and Monte-Carlo techniques. Interested applicants should send any questions, a CV, a brief statement of present and past research activities, and three or four letters of recommendation to Prof. Aron Bernstein, bernstein at mit.edu.
